Legislation would require medical providers to disclose prices of X-Ray, CT, and MRI scans
Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Mike Carey (R-OH) introduced the Imaging Services Price Transparency Act to increase transparency in health care for patients. Rep. Carey’s bill would require hospitals and other medical providers to make public the cost of imaging services, like X-Ray, MRI, and CT scans.
“Health care costs are skyrocketing across America,” said Congressman Carey. “Our legislation makes it easier for consumers to know in advance the cost of an X-Ray or CT scan. This will go a long way to ensuring that hardworking Americans are not blindsided by medical costs.”
Congressman Carey’s Imaging Services Price Transparency Act is included in the Ways and Means Committee’s Health Care Price Transparency Act, which is intended to lower costs and increase transparency in health care.
“Imaging services, like an x-ray or CAT scan, are common and important tools in health care, but their prices can vary drastically, making it difficult for patients to ensure they are finding the best value,” said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO). “Thanks to Rep. Carey, the Imaging Services Price Transparency Act will remove the guesswork for patients and allow them to find quality care at a price they can afford.”
