WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15) introduced a bipartisan resolution with a group of 7 House lawmakers, led by U.S. Rep. Yassamin Ansari (D-Ariz.-03), expressing support for protestors in Iran demanding a free and democratic government and condemning the Islamic regime’s repression of peaceful protestors and violent murders of civilians that has left more than 600 people dead.
“The oppressive regime in Iran has been willing to summarily murder its own people in the streets and sow chaos around the world for far too long,” Rep. Carey said. “The protestors taking to the streets are displaying enormous courage in their efforts to free themselves from this tyrannical government and its evil ambitions. May God bless the Iranian people in their efforts to rid themselves of oppression and guide them in their quest for a better future.”
“Right now, millions of people across Iran are bravely taking to the streets to demand freedom and an end to the barbaric regime,” Rep. Ansari said. “These protests are not just about economic opportunity, but about human rights and dignity. The Iranian people are demanding an end to the Islamic Republic. With a unified, bipartisan voice, I am leading Congress in condemning the regime’s brutality towards protesters and standing with the people of Iran in their fight for freedom and democracy.”
This resolution is also cosponsored by U.S. Reps. Stephanie Bice (R-Okla.-05), Virginia Foxx (R-N.C.-05), Deborah Ross (D-N.C.-02), Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pa.-08), Jim Himes (D-Conn.-04), and Brad Schneider (D-Ill.-10).
