PHOTOS: Carey Makes Stops Across Central Ohio

COLUMBUS, OHIO – Last week, U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, made stops across Central Ohio focused on seniors, health care, and military service members.

On Thursday, Rep. Carey joined members of the Ohio AARP in Columbus, Ohio for a telephone town hall to celebrate the 90th anniversary of Social Security and take questions on how he and his colleagues in Congress are working to preserve and protect the program for generations to come.

Later in the day, Rep. Carey joined the Alzheimer’s Association of Central Ohio for a roundtable to hear stories from people caring for loved ones with Alzheimer’s and highlight his pending legislation, the Credit for Caring Act.

“Ensuring that seniors in Central Ohio are getting the Social Security benefits they paid into and deserve is incredibly important. I was happy to join Ohio AARP to celebrate 90 years of Social Security and look forward to nearly another century of success,” Rep. Carey said. “I was also glad to meet with the Alzheimer’s Association for a roundtable to highlight the work caregivers offer to loved ones dealing with Alzheimer’s and dementia. With working family caregivers playing a growing role in our economy, my bipartisan Credit for Caring Act will be crucial in making sure Ohioans can work and take care of their loved ones.”

“I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to Congressman Carey for his leadership and unwavering commitment to ensure millions of Americans can retire with dignity, security and the support they’ve earned through Social Security. Equally outstanding is his work championing the Credit for Caring Act. Advancing these policies not only safeguard the promise of retirement but also strengthens the fabric of our communities by supporting the intrepid caregivers among us,” Jennifer Carlson, State Director of Ohio AARP, said.

“We’re so grateful for the support of Rep. Carey and all lawmakers who support our work,” Vince McGrail, executive director of the Alzheimer’s Association Central Ohio and Northwest Ohio chapters, said. “For the first time, more than seven million Americans have Alzheimer’s – including 236,200 in Ohio. It’s urgent that we work closely with our legislators to bring continued funding and awareness to help families in Ohio and work toward our vision of a world without Alzheimer’s and dementia.”

On Friday, Rep. Carey traveled to Springfield, Ohio, to tour the National Advanced Air Mobility Center of Excellence (NAAMCE) and meet with members of the Springfield Air National Guard. During the tour, Rep. Carey received updates on the base and its mission to support Advanced Air Mobility (AAM) technology at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (AFB) and other national partners.

“It was great to meet with so many great members of the Ohio Air National Guard in Springfield on Friday. This facility is playing a crucial leadership role in developing and testing new technology that can be deployed by our military and its partners in the years to come,” Rep. Carey said. “I am extremely grateful for the Guardsmen and their leadership for their work and hospitality and look forward to visiting again soon.”
