WHAT THEY ARE SAYING: Republican Reconciliation Package Praised by Ohio Industry Leaders

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, industry leaders and officials from across Ohio announced their support for the Republican reconciliation law and the benefits it will have for workers, families, farmers, and small businesses across Ohio and its economy.

Below are statements of support from various groups by category.

FAMILIES:

THE FIRST FIVE YEARS FUND:

“Efforts to improve and expand child care-related tax credits are a vital and long-overdue step forward for families and children. The updated tax credits, including the Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit (CDCTC), are aimed at relieving some of the financial pressure child care costs put on families. Together, CDCTC, with the enhanced Employer-Provided Child Care Credit (45F), and Dependent Care Assistance Plan (DCAP) will help to address the affordability and accessibility of child care while ensuring that employers can be part of the solution. We commend Congressman Carey and lawmakers in both the House and Senate who championed this issue and helped to ensure it was part of the final reconciliation package,” Sarah Rittling, Executive Director of the First Five Years Fund, said.

SMALL BUSINESS:

THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF INDEPENDENT BUSINESSES (NFIB):

“NFIB thanks Congressman Carey for standing up for small businesses in Ohio and supporting the One Big Beautiful Bill Act. This bill prevented a massive tax hike on millions of small businesses by making the 20% small business tax deduction permanent. In addition, it also prevented marginal tax rates from rising which would have resulted in a tax hike on over 33 million small businesses. It increased the Section 179 expensing threshold to $2.5 million which will encourage small businesses to invest in their companies knowing they can immediately write off many qualified purchases. Lastly – it made the small business estate tax exemption permanent, which will keep family businesses in the family,” Jeff Brabant, NFIB Vice President of Federal Government Relations, said.

AGRICULTURE:

THE OHIO FARM BUREAU:

“We appreciate Representative Carey’s leadership in protecting America’s food security and, in turn, our national security with the passage of The One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which includes $66 billion invested on behalf of agriculture. This bill will give Ohio farmers the certainty they deserve with much-needed enhancements to the farm safety net that reflect the current agricultural economy. It also makes tax provisions that are critical to farm families permanent, invests in working lands conservation programs and supports increased U.S. commodity exports, all of which will help farmers plan for the next season and the next generation,” Bill Patterson, President of the Ohio Farm Bureau, said.

OHIO CORN AND WHEAT ASSOCIATION:

“Ohio’s grain farmers are looking for new international markets and commonsense tax policy more than ever. We’re grateful for Congressman Carey’s diligent work on the Ways & Means committee to ensure farmer voices were heard on tax and trade policies that helped secure both,” Tadd Nicholson, Executive Director of the Ohio Corn and Wheat Growers Association, said.

ENERGY:

THE AMERICAN PETROLEUM INSTITUTE:

“This is the most important energy bill in a generation. President Trump has delivered on his promise to unleash American energy by unlocking opportunities for investment, supporting global competitiveness and opening lease sales onshore and offshore from the Gulf of America to Alaska. We applaud President Trump and Congress on this historic legislation that cements American energy leadership for years to come and ushers in a new era of energy development,” Mike Sommers, American Petroleum Institute President and CEO, said.

THE AMERICAN EXPLORATION AND PRODUCTION COUNCIL:

“America’s independent oil and natural gas producers applaud Representative Mike Carey’s instrumental leadership to help deliver on the One, Big, Beautiful Bill Act, a major step forward in strengthening American energy leadership. This landmark law is designed to unleash American energy production through commonsense, durable reforms, including legislation championed by Rep. Carey that enables Ohio’s independent producers to invest in new production and jobs by reversing the Biden-era tax penalty on intangible drilling costs. These historic reforms empower independent producers – the authors of the shale revolution – to continue delivering affordable, reliable, American-made energy that strengthens our economy, supports good-paying jobs, and reinforces our national security for generations to come,” Anne Bradbury, American Exploration and Production Council CEO, said.

HOUSING:

THE AFFORDABLE HOUSING TAX CREDIT COALITION:

“The Housing Credit provisions included in the reconciliation bill will finance well over a million more affordable homes across the U.S., including nearly 22,000 in Ohio – a profound impact at a time of staggering need,” Emily Cadik, AHTCC Chief Executive Officer, said. “We applaud Congressman Carey’s longstanding support and leadership on this effort to take an unprecedented step toward resolving a crisis that continues to affect millions of Americans.”

THE REAL ESTATE ROUNDTABLE:

“By advancing policies that encourage investment and preserve small business tax parity, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act is going to help revitalize neighborhoods, create jobs, and ensure all Americans benefit from a stronger built environment. Rep. Carey’s strong advocacy and leadership was critical to ensuring that key provisions to expand the supply of housing were part of the final bill, including the largest expansion of the tax credit for affordable housing in several decades,” Jeffrey DeBoer, President & CEO of the Real Estate Roundtable, said.
