COLUMBUS, OHIO – Today, U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15) announced two grants from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Rural Energy for America Program (REAP) to support rural development projects focused on maximizing energy efficiency for businesses in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District.
“By maximizing our energy production and optimizing its efficient use, we can help make energy cheaper and more accessible,” Rep. Carey said. “In particular, these projects will help rural areas of our district, especially our farmers. I was proud to play a role in securing these grants so we can partner together with our agriculture industry and jointly invest in a stronger energy future.”

- $232,050 USDA REAP grant award to SC Grain, LLC (Charleston, Ohio) to purchase and install an energy efficient grain dryer at SC Grain in Charleston, Ohio. This project is expected to save the operation $71,715 in annual energy costs and save 1,881,856 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power 177 homes.
- $43,720 USDA REAP grant award to The Rusty Keg, LLC (Washington Court House, Ohio) to purchase and install an energy efficient walk-in cooler and insulation at The Rusty Keg LLC in Washington Court House, Ohio. This project is expected to save the business $4,539 in annual energy costs and save 478,841 kilowatt hours (kWh) of electricity, enough to power four homes.
