WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, joined 610 WTVN radio to discuss the need to extend 2017 tax cuts for Ohio families, his Youth Poisoning Prevention Act passing the House last week, and his upcoming Veterans’ Wellness Day this Friday, May 9.

HIGHLIGHTS:

ON AVOIDING A REDUCTION IN THE CHILD TAX CREDIT: “I want you to understand, if we do nothing on this, 88,160 of Ohio’s 15th Congressional District’s families would see their household’s Child Tax Credit cut in half. So, what is that number? Right now, currently, it’s $2,000 per child. If we do nothing, that will go down to $1,000.”

ON OHIOANS FACING A REDUCTION IN THEIR GUARANTEED DEDUCTION: “92% of the taxpayers in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District would see their Guaranteed Deduction slashed in half.”

ON THREATS FACING FARMERS IF THE TAX CUTS EXPIRE: “If you look at just the family farmers in Ohio’s 15th Congressional District, their death tax exemption would… be slashed nearly in half.”

ON HIS UPCOMING VETERANS’ WELLNESS DAY: “Every military servicemember, active or retired, should have easy access to their benefits… As a veteran myself, ensuring that our veterans get all the benefits is incredibly important to me.”
