Supporting Working Families

As a dad and grandpa, I know how challenging it can be for families to make ends meet.

That’s why we are proud to lead on legislation that allows families to thrive. This means investing in their ability to save, plan for the future, and care for those they love.

For example: approximately 1.46 million Ohioans are family caregivers for loved ones at home and in nursing facilities, young and old. Our bipartisan, bicameral Credit for Caring Act would help cover more than $7,200 of out-of-pocket costs that families spend on caregiving costs including home care aides, adult day care, respite care, transportation and more.

We’re also working to keep kids safe and their parents supported, particularly with rising rates of mental illness impacting young people. Our Youth Poisoning Protection Act, which passed the House, would keep deadly poisons out of the hands of vulnerable young people.

Additionally, our Promoting Community-Based Prevention Services Act would encourage the funding for family resource centers. These centers provide mental health and addiction resources along with many other vital services for families in need.

Affordability, worsened by persistent inflation, is a major challenge for many Ohio families. As a member of the House Committee on Ways and Means, we were proud to support the Tax Relief for American Workers and Families Act. This bill expanded and strengthened the

Child Tax Credit by making more of a taxpayer’s income eligible for the credit and removing the penalty for families with multiple children.
