Congressman Mike Carey Announces Multi-Million Dollar Grant to Expand Rapid Low-Cost Transportation in Ohio

Washington, D.C. – Today, Representative Mike Carey (R-OH) announced a $41.9 million dollar grant for public transportation improvements throughout central Ohio. The grant will be disbursed by the Department of Transportation for the West Broad Street Bus Rapid Transportation Project in Franklin County, Ohio.

“Franklin County’s population has exploded in recent years, but unfortunately our transportation infrastructure has not kept up,” said Rep. Carey. “This new grant will help ensure that central Ohio has new, low-cost transit options connecting the city of Columbus to the rest of Franklin County.”

The West Broad Street Rapid Transportation Project includes the construction of 16 new stations along with the construction of a new park-and-ride transit center. The transit project is designed to address the regions of Columbus that are currently lacking the same low-cost transportation options that other neighborhoods already have access to.

The project also includes funding for bicycle and pedestrian improvements to the region as well.
