Carey Provision to Support Family Resource Centers Passes House

Washington, D.C. – Today, the House passed the Protecting America’s Children by Strengthening Families Act with overwhelming support. The bill includes a provision to support family resource centers, originally introduced by Representative Mike Carey (OH-15) in his bipartisan Promoting Community-Based Prevention Services Act.

“Family resource centers are a lifeline for Ohioans, giving them support in times of need and guidance so they can thrive. We were proud to champion family resource centers in the Ways & Means committee and are pleased to see this bill pass the House floor,” said Carey.

Specifically, the bill provides states greater flexibility in their allocation of funds to family resource centers.

Family resource centers (FRCs) provide community-driven services and spaces at no cost to the families who use them. FRC offerings range from mental health and substance abuse programs to parenting classes, screening for developmental delays and early childhood education.
