WASHINGTON, D.C. – This morning, U.S. Rep. Mike Carey (R-Ohio-15), a member of the House Ways and Means Committee, spoke during a Ways and Means Work and Welfare Subcommittee hearing titled, “Aging Out is Not a Plan: Reimagining Futures for Foster Youth.” During the hearing, Rep. Carey listened to stories from witnesses who went through the foster care system and other foster care experts.
Specifically, Rep. Carey praised First Lady Melania Trump’s Fiscal Year 2026 (FY 26) appropriations request to include $25 million for an initiative aimed at preparing foster youth for independent adult life. He also inquired about specific policies that can improve the foster system and create better outcomes for children in foster care.
