Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Chris Pappas (NH-01) and Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15) introduced the Fighting Presidential Budget Waste Act. The bill will help save taxpayer dollars by requiring the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) to consider the Government Accountability Office’s (GAO) annual report on federal programs with fragmented, overlapping, or duplicative goals from the prior year in order to address problems with those programs and reduce costs.
“As we continue working to rebuild our economy, it’s critical that the government take advantage of every opportunity to reduce our deficit,” said Congressman Pappas. “Eliminating overlapping and duplicative programs is a common-sense way to reduce spending and improve the overall efficiency of our government. Our national debt should be a top priority for both parties and addressed on a bipartisan basis, and I thank Representative Carey for partnering with me on this legislation.”
“Wasteful government spending and our ever-increasing debt are among the biggest concerns I hear about when meeting with constituents throughout Ohio’s 15th Congressional District,” said Congressman Carey. “In order to address waste in government spending, Representative Pappas and I are introducing the Fighting Presidential Budget Waste Act. This legislation would require administrations to analyze the GAO report before presenting a potential presidential budget.”
