Washington, DC – Today, Congressman Mike Carey (R-OH) was selected to serve as a member on the prestigious House Committee on Ways and Means for the 118th Congress.
“To be selected as a member of the Ways and Means Committee in my second term as a representative and under a Republican majority is an honor,” said Rep. Carey. “I look forward to working under the leadership of Congressman Jason Smith, Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means, and Speaker McCarthy to help deliver on House Republicans’ promise to lower the cost of living, rebuild American energy independence, and follow through on our Commitment to America.”
“Congressman Carey will be a valuable member of the Ways and Means Committee on behalf of his constituents. Rep. Carey’s background in the energy sector will make an excellent addition to the committee as we work to unleash American energy independence and reduce barriers to energy production in our tax code. America is facing multiple crises after two years of Democrat one-party rule. The Ways and Means Committee is ready to get to work building a stronger economy that will help working families, tackle inflation, lower taxes, and promote investment in America,” said Chairman Smith.
The Committee on Ways and Means is the oldest committee of the United States Congress, and is the chief tax-writing committee in the House of Representatives. The Committee derives a large share of its jurisdiction from Article I, Section VII of the U.S. Constitution, which declares, “All Bills for raising Revenue shall originate in the House of Representatives.” You can read more on the Ways and Means Committee here.
