ICYMI: Carey Bill to Protect Election Integrity Signed Into Law

Oct 10, 2024 | Press Releases, Uncategorized

WASHINGTON– Today, Congressman Mike Carey (OH-15) applauded his Confirmation of Congressional Observer Access (COCOA) Act of 2024 becoming law. The COCOA Act, which codifies the requirement that states allow congressional staff to observe election administration procedures, was signed into law after passing the House of Representatives late last month.

The bipartisan bill was cosponsored by House Committee on Administration Chairman Brian Steil (WI-01) and Rep. Joseph Morelle (NY-25).

“I’m proud the COCOA Act, which will codify the long-running Congressional Observer Program, is now signed into law,” said Rep. Carey. “This will give Americans confidence that their vote is counted with fairness and integrity.”

The long-running, nonpartisan Election Observer has trained congressional staff to provide an additional level of accountability during close election contests.

Carey has been a congressional leader on the issue of election integrity. Last month in the House Committee on Administration, Carey questioned Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose on the influence of foreign nationals in Ohio elections. Additionally, Carey supported the Safeguard American Voter Eligibility Act, which help expose and purge nearly 500 non-citizens from Ohio’s voter rolls.
